What Is Acumatica Custom Development?

Acumatica custom development is the process of extending or modifying the platform’s standard functionality to handle workflows, rules, or processes that are specific to your business and not covered by out-of-the-box configuration.

This is different from configuration. Configuration is setting up Acumatica’s existing features to match your business, including defining your chart of accounts, warehouse zones, and approval rules. Custom development is building something that does not exist in the platform by default, such as a custom screen that captures data specific to your industry, a business logic extension that enforces rules your operation runs on, a custom report built for how your leadership team makes decisions, or an integration that connects Acumatica to a system nobody has built a connector for yet.

The risk with custom development is building something that works now but breaks every time Acumatica releases an update. Acumatica releases two major updates per year. Customizations built outside the platform’s published framework do not survive those updates cleanly. We build everything inside the framework, which means your customizations upgrade with the platform rather than against it.
